Plumbing Mechanics

Piping, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuels, Fire Protection Systems Estimator
We are looking for an experienced estimator for our Long Island office who will work with our business unit supervisors in preparing estimates and bid packages for plan/spec and design/build projects. We are looking for an individual strong in commercial mechanical, Fire sprinkler and plumbing estimating. Job requirements include specification review; analysis of the scope of work, preparation of take offs for rough in materials and quoted items, procure best pricing for equipment and materials. Provide initial material and budgets. Deliver bid packages to the customers on time. Applicants must have a minimum of 7+ years’ experience in developing estimates for plan/spec and design/build projects for commercial mechanical contractors. Demonstrate the ability to estimate multiple projects and meet imposed deadlines and have skills with estimating and bidding software.

Required:

  • Bachelors in mechanical engineering a plus
  • High School diploma or GED
  • On field experience and graduated an apprentice program or a certification in the trade.
  • Experience with computer database estimating applications / software’s (Timberline and On Screen Takeoff),  and proficiency with MS Word and Excel.
  • 7+ years of experience as a senior estimator, estimating all aspects of piping, mechanical, plumbing,  fire protection and fuel construction regarding small to large scale projects.
  • Unit cost estimating may be required from time to time.
  • Provide supervision and training of mid-level and junior level estimating staff, as well as ensuring and expanding their skills and accuracy.
  • Experienced in estimating both Open shop and Union projects an advantage / plus.
  • The Piping, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuels, Fire Protection systems estimator should expect to be involved in efforts to conduct  cost savings / value engineering, and constructability reviews.
  • Experienced / proficient with labor productivities and appropriate adjustments, location adjustment factors, construction equipment requirements for various types of work, direct and general conditions cost, etc.
  • Experienced with WBS (Work Breakdown Structures) as related to estimate structure, project cost, and schedule control.
  • Experienced in estimating projects with values to at least $5,000,000 (US dollars).
  • May be asked to work weekends and / or additional hours to complete your assignments.
  • Must be willing to work independently as well as in a team environment in an office setting with minimal to no supervision
  • Must have strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Must be detail and accuracy oriented regarding takeoff and estimate entry.
  • Must have a friendly professional attitude.
  • Must be well versed in national codes as related to the specific discipline(s)
  • Must be willing to visit job sites and attend project walk thru’s.
  • Have vendor relationships with different supply houses.
  • Must be experienced / proficient with estimating multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Provide and present estimate reports sorted to management so as to evaluate job costs and profitability., as well as having  the ability to clearly defend your estimate and its accuracy are required.
  • OSHA 10 Hour certificate
